Holiday preparations
on 18 Aug 2006
Its 11:30pm, the taxi is picking us up tomorrow at 6:45am and we still haven't finished packing yet. Our bags are stuffed full of everything from extra large nappies through to tins of low salt food for our son. At least we shouldn't need to bring it back and will have some space to carry back a souvenir or two. The airline can't do a low salt meal so they have offered us an empty tray to fill with appropriate food ourselves, so with the current situation we will be munching our way through everything at the security checkpoint in order to prove that its food. I've no idea what they think we might do with a soggy quiche!
Wow, Pete has won Big Brother! A few weeks ago I would have been stunned if you'd told me someone with special needs would be on a high profile show, let alone win something so big. Good for him.
Just as we thought everything was sorted out with our daughter's schooling, it now turns out that our friend, who was allocated to be her escort for the 25 mile journey, has been replaced by a complete stranger. To be honest, we only accepted such a remote placement because we believed she would be accompanied on the journey by a close friend. As a result of her special needs and being adopted, we feel our daughter is especially vulnerable. Although she has settled very well into our family over the last year, she still panics if she thinks we might be taken away from us.
Obviously there won't be any website updates over the next two weeks but feel free to use the Messageboard or post comments on the diary for me when I get back!
