Flashy Trainers

Had a really good day today. First of all we received my son and daughters swimming reports and they were fab. Our daughter got an good in everything which was outstanding as just a year ago she would cry if she even got water on her face. Our son also did really well and has been moved up a group. I am so proud of him as he is really water confident and he was able to swim all by himself without aids before he could walk!
After swimming we went to the Toyota garage and chose out our new car which we are getting through the Motability scheme. It is a Toyota Verso which seems really nice, not that I am really into cars! Had to negotiate with our son who wanted a silver car and managed to persuade him that red was in fact a good colour as it was the same colour as sports candy (apples) that Sportacus eats (Lazy Town - best child hypnotising programme on TV!) and that no, we could not have a stripy one! He was very excited about the CD player and the fact that there are two fold down seats for grandparents to sit in. Better than the boot I suppose!
After that we popped to get their new glasses (how long will these ones last I wonder?!) and bought each one of us an electric toothbrush. Our son thought that it was great and for the first time ever actually wanted to clean his teeth. Our daughter, however, protested strongly, amazingly through clenched mouth! Not quite sure how she managed that!
I then did something really bad. Really, really bad! I bought our son a pair of trainers with flashing lights on the side!! In his five and a half years, we have never chose him a pair of shoes apart from wellies as he has always had Piedro boots. In an act of defiance, feeling only a tad guilty, I decided to buy him these shoes as spares in case his boots got wet. It sounds really silly but I got quite emotional seeing him in these which he loved, stamping and stamping to make the light go off. This extra step - literally!- towards normality was great and he looked like any other five year old boy. The silly things that make you happy, eh?
